KNX Individual Room Control: 3 Tips for the Heating Season

News of 15 October 2026

Individual Temperature Control for Every Room

As the heating season begins, individual room control is once again coming into focus. Whether for new buildings or modernisation projects, planning a KNX heating control system requires careful coordination of different heating systems, room requirements and components.

We have put together three technical tips on how room controllers, heating systems and actuators work together. We also introduce a suitable Elsner solution for implementing KNX individual room control.

3 Tips for KNX Individual Room Control

Choose the Right Control Method for the Heating System

Heating systems respond differently to temperature changes. PWM control with a long cycle time may suit slow-response underfloor and wall heating, while two-point control can be suitable for fan-assisted heating systems. The control method should always match the system's characteristics.

Define Operating Modes and Setpoint Temperatures

Different operating modes allow switching between comfort temperatures and reduced heating operation. Important factors include how the room is used, the desired setpoint temperatures and appropriate switching between operating modes.

Coordinate Room Controllers and Heating Actuators

Temperature measurement, control and actuators must work together. When configuring the system in ETS, check in particular that the output control variables are compatible with the heating actuator used and the selected control method.

The Cala 101 T KNX sec room temperature controller combines temperature measurement, heating and cooling control, and direct operation on the device. The touch buttons allow users to adjust the setpoint temperature, while the glass push-button's LED display shows the current temperature.

The integrated PI controller supports single-stage or two-stage heating and cooling control. The device can also be used as a main controller or an extension unit and incorporate external temperature measurements. KNX Secure ensures encrypted communication within the KNX system.

Legal guarantee

Harmonised EU legal guarantee notice

Minimum two-year legal guarantee protection for goods sold in the European Union.

Consumers can claim their rights under the legal guarantee of conformity, for example if goods:

  • do not match the description;
  • do not function as intended.

Sellers are liable for any lack of conformity which existed when the goods were delivered, and which becomes apparent within the legal guarantee period. Sellers in such a situation are required to offer:

  • free repair or free replacement;
  • in some cases, a price reduction or full reimbursement.

Some countries have a longer legal guarantee period. For second-hand goods, a shorter period may apply, but not less than one year.

What to do if you receive non-conforming goods:

  1. Contact the seller as soon as possible to report the issue;
  2. Provide proof of purchase, such as a receipt, invoice, or bank statement.

Sellers and producers may also offer commercial guarantees, which apply independently from the legal guarantee. For example, you may see this GARAN label representing a commercial guarantee of durability offered by the producer at no additional cost and covering the entire good.

For more information on your rights in a specific country, visit the page below or ask the seller. https://europa.eu/youreurope/guarantees
