FAQ KNX Products
Frequently asked questions about KNX products from Elsner Elektronik
Why can the KNX device not be programmed via the bus?
- Make sure that the correct application version is being used. Check whether the item number of your device matches the item number of the selected application. In most cases, the application lists the item number of the white version of the device. If you are using the same device type in a different colour, still select the white item number.
- Also make sure that both bus voltage and auxiliary voltage are available. This must be checked by a qualified electrician.
- If a line or area coupler is being used, set it to “forward”.
- Assign an address to the device. The factory default is 15.15.250/255. The device address must differ from the address of the programming interface.
Where can I find the serial number? How do I read the serial number?
- The serial number is located on the product and consists of the date and an ascending two-digit number: DDMMYYXX.
- In addition, the serial number is printed on the product packaging as a barcode in the following format: 0 0YYYYM MDDXXY. The first two digits (0 0) and the last digit (Y) are not part of the serial number.
- For KNX products, the encrypted serial number can also be read via the ETS. Right-click on the relevant product and select Info > Device info. Once the device information has been read, an entry appears in the history on the right-hand side. Click “Open in new window” next to the message “Device info completed”. Alternatively, select the product and open Properties > Settings on the right-hand side. The displayed encrypted serial number can be decrypted by our technical support team.
How can I perform a firmware update for Elsner devices?
Firmware updates for Elsner Elektronik devices can generally only be carried out by Elsner Elektronik. Exceptions include WS1000 Connect and Solexa II devices.
In most cases, a firmware update is not required, as updates usually relate to the integration of new components, such as new radio-controlled actuators.
If you would like to perform a firmware update for your device, please contact our service team first. Our colleagues will check whether a software update is possible and appropriate for your device. If this is the case, Elsner Elektronik can carry out the update for a fee.
