FAQ control systems
The most frequently asked questions about building controls and conservatory controls from Elsner Elektronik
Why does the display show the error ‘Weather station/no connection to the weather station’?
- Please contact an electrician. They will first test the weather station wiring according to VDE0100 Part 610 and check if the voltage at the weather station measures +24 V .
- If the wiring is in order, and the voltage measures +24 V, the problem is likely to be with the weather station. In rare cases, the problem is with the controller.
- Please replace your defective weather station P00 (3-wire), P01, P02 with a newer weather station. Repairs are not supported for these older models.
- The controllers WS10, WS20, WS1000 alt, WS1 and WS1000 Touch are also no longer eligible for repair.
Why does my shading retract even though it is sunny?
If there is a wind or rain alarm, the shading retracts automatically (protective function).
A tree or neighbouring building may be casting a shadow on the weather station sensor.
The measured brightness value is below the set limit value. If the brightness value is below the limit value, the shade is retracted automatically.
Why does my shading not extend?
- Please make sure that the shading is set to ‘Automatic operation’.
- It is possible that not all the set parameters have been exceeded (light, blocking temperatures etc.). The shading will then extend. Compare the weather values shown on the display with the set values (parameters).
- If there is a wind/rain alarm, the shading will not move (protection function).
Why does the Solexa control unit display ‘Error’?
The wireless connection between the display and the weather station has not been learnt or has been deleted. Ensure that the radio connection is learnt again if it has been lost.
Have a qualified electrician ensure that the weather station is supplied with power. The specialist can also check the fine-wire fuse of the device. No radio connection can be established without voltage.
Why does the Solexa II drive automatically switch from manual to automatic mode?
Where can I find the serial number of Elsner products? How do I read the serial number?
- The serial number is located on the product and is composed of the date and an ascending two-digit number: DDMMYYXX.
- In addition, the serial number is on the product packaging as a barcode in the following form: 0 0YYYYM MDDXXY. The first two digits (0 0) and the last digit (Y) are not part of the serial number.
- The serial number of controls with a battery can change when the battery is replaced. Therefore, the serial number should not be read off the control's display. Instead, use the invoice of the control. If only the year of manufacture is required, this can also be taken from the invoice date or determined by the year of manufacture of the conservatory.
Which motor can I connect to a control output?
The maximum apparent power in VA (volt-amperes) and the maximum current in A (amperes) are specified for the control outputs of Elsner devices, not the power in W (watts) for the motors.
This is the reason for this: With resistive loads (e.g. light bulbs), current and voltage are in phase (cos φ =1), so that 1 VA = 1 W. With inductive loads such as motors, current and voltage are NOT in phase. This means that 1 VA no longer corresponds to 1 W. The power factor cos φ is required to convert VA (apparent power) to watts. The cos φ must not be lower than 0.6.
How can the data for Elsner devices and for motors be compared?
The current specification on the controller and motor often helps, as it can be compared directly. If there is only a watt specification on the motor, there should also be a cos φ specification or this should be requested from the motor manufacturer. If the manufacturer does not provide any information, a cos φ of 0.6 should be assumed.
Conversion examples from VA to W:
- Specification cos φ on the motor 0.6,
Maximum control output load 500 VA:
500 VA × 0.6 = 300 W
The motor must not have more than 300 W. - Specification cos φ on the motor 0.8,
Maximum control output load 500 VA:
500 VA × 0.8 = 400 W
The motor must not have more than 400 W.
