Solexa Home: Automatic control for shading, lighting and climate

Complete system for automatic shading and indoor climate control

Solexa Home is the new generation of automatic sun shading control from Elsner Elektronik. The system combines a weather station, control panel and base unit to create a central wireless solution that intelligently controls awnings, roller shutters, blinds, windows, lighting and heaters. All sensors are pre-installed – from brightness and wind to rain, temperature and frost. This allows the system to respond autonomously to changing weather conditions and maintain a balanced indoor climate at all times.

With local data processing, Solexa Home operates entirely without a cloud – reliable, data-secure and independent of the internet.

Functions

What can Solexa Home do?

The Solexa Home weather station continuously measures current environmental conditions and controls all connected drives accordingly. A brightness sensor detects sunlight from the east, south and west, while a GPS sensor provides precise time and position data. This enables Solexa Home to determine exactly when and where the sun hits the building – moving awnings or blinds into shading position only when necessary. This saves energy, prevents overheating and makes the best use of natural daylight.

The following sensor values are recorded:

  • Brightness (one direction): basis for sun position-based shading control
  • Wind speed: protection during strong wind or storms
  • Precipitation: safeguards drives during rain or snow
  • Outdoor temperature and frost: prevents damage caused by icing
  • Indoor temperature: enables automatic ventilation or heating control

Control is fully automatic according to freely adjustable threshold values. Alternatively, operation can be performed manually at any time via the control panel or the app. This makes Solexa Home both convenient for everyday use and reliable for weather-dependent installations.

Operation

How can Solexa Home be operated?

The control panel is the central user interface of Solexa Home. It displays all key sensor readings – such as wind, brightness, temperature and precipitation – as well as the current operating mode.

Via the interface, you can:

  • Manually operate awnings, roller shutters or blinds
  • Activate or deactivate automatic functions
  • Adjust brightness or wind threshold values

The Solexa Mobile App (Android / iOS) also allows convenient remote operation. For those who prefer classic switches, existing push buttons can be connected via the RF-B2-UP Radio Push Button Interface – ideal for modernisation or retrofitting.

The control panel is charged inductively via the base station and can be positioned freely, for example on a table or shelf. This means Solexa Home can always be operated wherever it is needed in everyday use.

How is Solexa Home installed and commissioned?

Solexa Home has been designed for practical, straightforward installation. The weather station is mounted outside in an exposed position so that sunlight, wind and rain can be measured freely. One drive (e.g. an awning) can be connected directly to the weather station, while additional motors and devices are integrated into the system via wireless actuators.

Commissioning is completed in five simple steps:

  1. Mount the weather station and connect the 230 V drive
  2. Power the base station via a USB-C power supply
  3. Pair the control panel – activate learning mode on the panel, then briefly switch the power to the weather station and wireless modules off and on again
  4. Pair wireless actuators or RF-B2-UP push buttons
  5. Configure the basic settings for connected drives and devices (type, direction, travel time, etc.) and adjust automatic functions via the menu

All settings are made directly on the control panel – no PC, software or programming knowledge required. Once installed, Solexa Home is immediately ready for operation and runs entirely locally, without any internet connection or cloud services.

This makes it ideal for retrofits and smaller building automation projects and ensures maximum data sovereignty: neither Elsner Elektronik nor any external server has access to settings or control data.

How does Solexa Home work in everyday life?

A conservatory is often the brightest room in the house – but also the most challenging when it comes to temperature and sunlight. This is where Solexa Home demonstrates how modern automation can make life easier:

As soon as the sun shines through the glass façade, the system automatically activates the blinds or screens. They lower only as far as necessary to prevent glare and overheating, while keeping the daylight pleasantly bright. When clouds appear, the system slightly raises the blinds to let in as much natural light as possible. If the wind picks up, Solexa Home reacts immediately: the awning retracts before any damage can occur. The automatic control also provides protection during rain or frost, keeping drives and arms safely in resting position. In the evening, when the sun sets, the shading opens again to restore the view outside.

The entire process runs automatically, precisely and transparently. Manual operation is possible at any time via the control panel, app or wall switch. This keeps the conservatory comfortably bright, protected and well-tempered throughout the day – without constant adjustments or manual effort.

Conclusion

Automatic control with a system – local, efficient and reliable

Solexa Home combines precise sensor technology, wireless communication and intuitive operation in a well-designed complete system. The control unit operates locally, independent of any cloud services, and therefore remains reliable even when no internet connection is available.

For users, this means greater everyday comfort, protection in all weather conditions and a pleasant indoor climate – without the need for manual intervention. The system responds automatically – energy-efficiently, intelligently and predictably.

For installers and planners, Solexa Home offers a clearly structured solution that can be set up without additional software. Wireless connections and drives are learned directly via the control panel, and threshold values as well as automatic functions can be configured quickly. This saves time during commissioning and reduces maintenance effort.

Solexa Home is therefore the ideal control solution for conservatories, terraces, glass roofs, loggias and living areas with large glass façades – easy to plan, reliable in operation and flexible for future expansion.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Solexa Home

How does Solexa Home differ from Solexa II or Solexa 230 V?
Solexa Home is the successor to the Solexa II set. It features a wireless control panel, a base station with USB-C power supply and a wireless architecture similar to Solexa II. All sensors are integrated, and operation is possible either via the control panel or the app.

Can Solexa Home be integrated into existing systems?
Solexa Home is a standalone wireless system that operates independently of other control systems. Integration into existing automation systems or communication protocols is not intended. However, existing 230 V drives – such as awning or roller shutter motors – can be connected to the control system via wireless actuators. This allows Solexa Home to be easily retrofitted into existing electrical installations without additional cabling or cloud connection.

How many devices can Solexa Home control?
A Solexa Home installation consists of one weather station and one control panel. Up to 16 actuators (e.g. motor control units or relays) can be connected wirelessly. In addition, up to 32 remote controls, push buttons or wireless sensors can be paired. A 230 V drive – such as for an awning or blind – can also be connected directly to the weather station. This makes Solexa Home suitable even for larger systems with multiple shading elements.

What happens if the internet connection fails?
Solexa Home operates entirely locally. All automatic functions run independently of the internet. App control is optional – operation via the control panel is always available.

What protective functions does Solexa Home offer in bad weather?
The system automatically reacts to wind, rain and frost. Awnings, blinds and windows are moved to a safe position in time to prevent damage.

Can Solexa Home also control lighting or ventilation?
Yes. In addition to shading elements, Solexa Home can also control heaters, LED lights or window drives for natural ventilation – for example for roof or sliding windows. This makes Solexa Home comparable to an Arexa window control in its functionality. Depending on the application, outputs can be switched or dimmed.

Is Solexa Home compatible with other Elsner systems?
Solexa Home uses the Elsner RF wireless protocol and is compatible with Elsner RF accessories such as wireless actuators, push buttons and remote controls.
