Project Insight: Pool Control with Remo KNX RF

In our new “Project Insight” series, members of the Elsner Elektronik team share experiences from real projects encountered in their day-to-day work. The focus is on practical challenges in building automation and on how carefully planned solutions can translate complex requirements into reliable, real-world applications.

We begin with a project in the field of pool control, where different systems were intelligently combined into one cohesive concept. Frederik Riedel, Head of Technical Service at Elsner Elektronik, provides insight into a rather unconventional approach in which the Elsner Remo KNX RF remote control played a central role.

The project

When Three Remote Controls Are Two Too Many

The Challenge

“In a recent project, I was faced with a typical real-world situation: the pool of a building was operated using three separate remote controls – one for the pool cover, one for the pool lighting and another for the LED strips in the pool house. For the user, this was neither clear nor convenient. My approach was therefore straightforward: the existing systems were not to be replaced, but intelligently combined.”

My Approach

“I integrated the lighting into the existing KNX bus via DMX and DALI gateways and connected the pool cover using the Elsner KNX A3-B2 gate control module. All functions were then assigned to a single central RF remote control.

The result: one remote control – in this case the Remo KNX RF – now intuitively operates the pool cover, lighting and LED strips. At the same time, all functions are fully integrated into the house via KNX, including the option to implement further automation features or extensions at any time.”
